MINDFULNESS offers a holistic approach to maintaining balance in our
lives. Drawing on our existing resources, based on meditation and awareness
of the breath and body, it is about learning to live in the present
moment.
Virtually anyone can develop these skills to help work with physical
or emotional pain, stress, fatigue – and the ups and downs of
ordinary everyday life.
Participants will be expected to attend all 8 sessions as well as the
orientation session, which is integral to the course - as this is a
progressively structured programme running over successive weeks.
The course is intense - I encourage participants to think of it as 8
weeks' regular home practice, supported by weekly classes. Those taking
part will need to commit to daily home practice for the duration of
the course - so it's not for the faint-hearted or those who are unable
to make adjustments to their life in order to accommodate this. However,
the skills you develop during the 8 weeks will be available to you for
the rest of your life.
I’ve been teaching and practising Mindfulness- Based Approaches
for a number of years in the prevention of relapse into depression,
in managing pain and chronic illness, and working with stress and addictive
behaviours. I have a longstanding meditation practice, and a postgraduate
teaching diploma in Mindfulness-Based Approaches. I’m a qualified
psychotherapeutic counsellor (MBACP) and have trained in Mindfulness
and Individual Therapy with the Centre of Mindfulness Research and Practice
at the University of Bangor.
