Therapists
I started studying the Alexander Technique when I was still at University, because I had stress-related back pain. During this time I also started studying dance. After the technique cured my back pain, I continued learning because I was interested in the psychological benefits of mindfulness and wanted to improve my posture for my dance training. I am currently interested in how awareness of physical and psychological patterns facilitates personal development. I am also interested in exploring the therapeutic benefits of mindful movement in my own dance practise. In an Alexander Technique lesson, I use my hands to gently encourage physical tension to release. I also talk with the client, correcting mis-understandings about anatomy and gradually revealing the habits which are causing the client problems. Through our work together, the client finds a supportive place to review situations and their reactions to them. We look at everyday activities like sitting, walking and speaking, or specific activities like working at a computer, taking part in sport or giving presentations. Sessions always include a relaxing lie down aimed at easing physical tension and helping the client to let go of psychological stress. Cost: Contact: |
